The application of radar technology in the civilian sector has achieved deep expansion and widespread coverage. The S-band phased array weather radar, C-band phased array weather radar, and portable X-band phased array weather radar launched by China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) can efficiently monitor small and medium-scale severe weather events such as storms, heavy rainfall, hail, and strong winds. This significantly enhances early warning capabilities, providing valuable time for society to implement disaster prevention and mitigation measures. Additionally, millimeter-wave radar can accurately obtain microphysical structure parameters within clouds, offering more reliable data support for weather forecasting and further improving the precision of meteorological predictions.

As a globally leading radar technology, phased array radar also plays a critical role in the field of civil aviation safety. During aircraft takeoff and landing phases, particularly in low-altitude areas below 3 kilometers and near-ground regions below 600 meters, sudden changes in wind speed and direction can easily trigger wind shear, known as the “airport killer,” posing a serious threat to flight safety.

According to Tang Ji, “The current detection resolution has been improved by 8 times compared to previous technologies, and the volumetric scan speed has increased by 4 times.” This technology has achieved breakthrough progress in vertical detection, featuring multi-layer detection capabilities similar to CT scanning. It can complete 40 layers of fine scanning in the same direction within just over ten seconds, significantly enhancing the monitoring and early warning capabilities for aviation hazardous weather and providing solid technical support for flight route safety.

In the “Radar Empowering Defense Security” exhibition area, the 23rd Research Institute of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC) comprehensively showcased its achievements in the aerospace defense detection product system, information support and assurance product system, and industrial chain extension product system through various forms such as physical objects, models, sand tables, and videos. This fully demonstrates the critical support and innovative application value of radar technology across multiple domains.
